Welcoming New Light to the Tree - Dancing With Torahs on Shady Avenue

On Sunday, November 12th we had the unique and special experience of welcoming New Light Congregation to their new sanctuary at Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha. I was thrilled for our students and madrichim (teen helpers) to join the procession  with New Light on Shady Avenue. They marched proudly in the street with a Chuppah and their Torahs.

Even though we are in Sq. Hill, it really isn’t everyday you see a group of Jewish people in a parade down Shady Avenue carrying a chuppah and several Torahs. What a special treat this was for the children at TLC. The children of course became instantly excited when they saw the television cameras and press there. Once we were in the building we joined in the festivities of welcoming New Light with singing in their new space.

Chanukah is coming and we look forward to joining together for our community and school Chanukah Party on December 12 from 5:15 - 6:30 PM. Additionally, our school will join with the greater Pittsburgh community by attending Latkepalooza sponsored by JJEP at Beth Shalom on Sunday, December 17 from 10:00 - Noon. All are welcome.  The cost per family is $5.

I want to thank Alex Speck and our 7th graders for organizing the Mitzvah Chanukah Menorah again this year. It stands proudly as you enter the Tree and the children are already excited to choose a tag a purchase a special gift that will be donated to families in need this holiday season.

We strive at TLC to bring the richness and celebration of Judaism, Israel, Hebrew, and our culture to our students. We think of this as we kindle the Chanukah lights this year.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who hallows us with mitzvot, commanding us to kindle the Hanukkah lights.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who performed wondrous deeds for our ancestors in days of old at this season.
